Welcome to College of Health ScienceIntroduction At its of 27th October 2004, the Senate of the University of Abuja approved the setting up of four new academic programmes, which included the College of Health Sciences. Subsequently, Professor J.A.M Otubu was appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecolgy on the 1st October 2005 and designated as Dean of Faculty upon assumption of duty. Student Enrollment The first set of students which totaled 30, were admitted into 100 Level in 2005/2006 academic session. In January 2007,22 out these 30 students were successful in the 100 Level examination and proceeded to 200 Level. The three Basic Science Departments Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology as well as the Department of Community Medicine , commenced lectures to these students on 22 January 2007. After 13(1/2) months of teaching, theses students have virtually completed the segment of the curriculum for 200 Level and would be ready to sit for the First Professional Examination in 4 to five months from now. The second set of students (64 in number) was admitted into 100 Level programme in 2006/2007 academic session. Twenty one out these passed the 100 Level examination and progressed to 200 Level in March 2008. This group of students would expected would be expected to sit for First Professional Examination in the 18 months' time. The third set of students (45 in number) was admitted into the 100 Level programme in February 2008. The College started with one Faculty, namely the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences with Professor S.A. Asala as the Dean. However, in February 2008, two or more Faculties were opened up, namely the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences and Faculty of Clinical Sciences. Faculties - Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences

The former President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, approved the use of Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital as the Teaching Hospital and directed that a special working relationship be developed with the National Hospital. However,following our belief in the benefits of operating a Multi-Teaching Hospital Complex, the University of Abuja has begun the process of including other hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory in the Hospital Complex. College Institute A College Statute 2007, established by virtue of section of the University of Abuja Act 1992 was evolved. This has been approved by the Senate and Council of the University of Abuja and is presently with Mr. President for assent. Community Practice The College has located a Primary Health Center at Dobi in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.The University of Abuja is in the final stages of negotiation with the Council authority for the use of the facility in the training of our students.
