WELCOME TO THE FACULTY OF ARTS

History of Faculty of Arts

Dean Faculty of Arts        As one of the foundation Faculties in the 1990/1991 academic session, the Faculty of  Arts is as old as the University of Abuja itself; and has undergone processes of metamorphosis for almost  two decades now. It has either existed as independent faculty or in merger with another, under the nomenclatures of either Faculty or College. While between 1991 - 1993, it was a unit of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS) with Prof. K.O Ologe as the maiden Dean, by 1993 - 1994 it suddenly came out of the FASS union as Faculty of Arts with the late Associate Prof. Odumuh as Dean.

With the introduction of the collegiate system, the Faculty formed a different union with another Faculty as College of Arts and Education between 1994 and 1997 with Dr. A.I. Iketuonye as Dean. The Faculty still maintained the marriage with Education from 1997 to 2000 when Dr. J.N Ukwedeh took over as Dean

until it reverted from the collegiate to Faculty system between 2000 to 2005 during the deanship of Prof J.A. Ohiare of blessed memory.

It has remained as Faculty of Arts under the Deanships of Prof. S.E.T Gbileka (2005 - 2006); Associate Prof. J.N. Ukwedeh (2007 - 2008); and currently under Associate Prof. Effiok .B. Uwatt from June 2008 to date.
