The
University of Abuja (UofA) was established as a dual-mode university with the
mandate to run both conventional and distance learning academic programmes. It was
the first University in the country to assume such a dual mandate at inception
The faculty of Education was formerly known as College of Arts and Education at inception. It comprises of the departments of Counselling and Science Education, English and Literary Studies, Foundations, Arts and Social Science Education, History and Theatre Arts. By the 2000/2001 academic session, the collegiate system was jettisoned by the University Senate in favour of a faculty system, and the College of Arts and Education was split into two entities: Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Education. The Faculty of Education became a full-fledged faculty with two departments: the Department of Counselling and Science Education with four Degree programmes, and the Department of Foundation Arts and Social Science Education with four Degree programmes as well.
