UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA WELCOMES NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR, PROFESSOR ABDUL-RASHHEED NA’ALLAH

Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah assumes office as University of Abuja Vice-Chancellor

The new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah has assumed Office as the 6th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja with a pledge to work with relevant stakeholders to transform the University of Abuja into a world class University and a pride to the nation.

Professor Na’Allah stated, while receiving handover documents from the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor M.U. Adikwu on Monday 1st July, 2019 on the Main Campus, that Nigeria can be a major player in the world like China, Malaysia and Singapore through innovative research and international collaborations. He called on the entire University community for support and cooperation adding that the University is the propeller of development and that a lot could be achieved with the cooperation.

The Chairman of the 8th Governing Council of the University of Abuja, Alhaji Sani Maikudi had earlier presented a letter of appointment to Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University after the 53rd Extra -Ordinary meeting of the University Governing Council held on Friday 28th June 2019.

The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor M.U.Adikwu expressed his gratitude to members of the University community for the cooperation accorded him even during the crisis he met on assumption of duty in 2014. He urged the community to give maximum support to Professor Na’Allah to enable him settle down fast and move the University forward.

Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, a Professor of Comparative Literature was born on the 21st of December, 1962 in llorin, Kwara State. He attended Demonstration 1 Primary School, Sokoto and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1976, Government Teachers’ College Birnin Yauri where he obtained Teachers’ Grade ii Certificate in 1981 and University of llorin, where he graduated with a B.A. (Ed) English and Education (Upper Second Class) in 1988. Professor Na’Allah obtained Master of Literature Degree in English, from the University of llorin in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada in 1999.

Professor Na’Allah has undergone several national and international training programmes including training on Advancement Leadership for Presidents in April 2015; training on Educational Management in July 2013; and training on Management Development Programme in June 2009 from the Harvard University, Cambridge, M.A., amongst others.

Professor Na’Allah started his academic career as a Class Teacher in llorin Schools Management Board, llorin (1981-1984), before be coming a Graduate Assistant at the University of llorin ( October 1989-1992); and Assistant Lecturer at the same University, (1992-1994). He was also at the Western Illinois University Chicago, USA where he held various positions including, the Director of Indigenous Africa and Diaspora Discourse Programme (1990 -2000); Member, Dean of Fine Arts and Communication Search Committee( 2003- 2004) amongst others. He rose to the Professorial rank at the same University in 2007.

Professor Na’Allah was appointed the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Kwara state University, Malete in 2009, where he served two consecutive terms and was able to attract funds/grants both internal and external including the UNESCO Chair in Alternative Energy (2011) and SSHRC Insight Development Grant, Canada(2012); amongst others.

Professor Na’Allah was the Chair, Western Illinois University Minority Internship Programme (MIP) from 2004-2009.

Professor Na’Allah is a reviewer for several national and international journals and has published in many reputable peer-reviewed journals. He has over twenty-two books and chapters in books to his credit and has attended over Fifty conferences within the country and abroad in addition to his Ph.D. supervisions. Professor Na’Allah is a member of nine Learned Societies including, Nigeria Academy of Letters; African Literature Association and the Canadian Comparative Literature Association, amongst others.

Professor Na’Allah is married with eight children.

The University community wishes the new Vice-Chancellor a successful tenure as the 6th substantive VC of the University of Abuja.
