The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na'Allah has warned persons encroaching on the University land to stop forthwith, vowing to take necessary steps to challenge them. He gave the warning when the executives of the Gwagwalada branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday 5 July 2020.

He said, “We have vast acres of land that we need to develop, we can’t use our land again because it is being encroached upon by all sorts of people. They need to know that we are declaring a war. We want to stop people from encroaching on our land so that we can use it for meaningful development. “Let these people know that we are going to challenge them. We shall use all legitimate means and power to claim our rights by getting back our land from them - whether they are our staff or outsiders- whoever they are, we will get our land and stop them from further encroaching on it.”

The Vice-Chancellor said it was unacceptable for the University to be treated by the encroachers as tenant in its own land, stressing that his administration would no longer tolerate such audacity. He appealed to the NBA for support in dealing with the menace of encroachment on the University land. In her response, Chairperson of the Women Forum of the NBA Gwagwalada Branch, Professor Josephine Agbonika, described encroachment as illegal, assuring the Vice Chancellor that her association will collaborate with the University to address the issue. “Encroachment is against the law. Proactive steps need to be taken to stop this. They have no right to claim the land that does not belong to them. So we will collaborate with your legal unit to do the needful,” she said.
