President Tinubu Completes Appointments of External Members to University of Abuja Governing Council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new members to the governing councils of the University of Abuja, thereby completing the constitution of the external members of the councils of the institution.

The newly appointed members to the University Council are: Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South South), Dr Adedeji Adefuye (South West), Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North West), and Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North East). 

The President and Visitor to the University of Abuja had earlier on 6 February  2025 dissolved the Governing Council of the University and removed the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi. He subsequently appointed Dr Olanrewaju Tejuoso as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Abuja,  and Professor Patricia Manko Lar as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

In a statement released on 27 May 2025 by the presidential spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the vacancies in the governing councils of  two other universities, UNN and NAU were also filled.

The newly appointed council members for UNN are Rt Hon Barrister Ogbonna Eugene Odo (South East) and Muhammad Inuwa Tahir (North West).  For NAU, the new council members are Dr Nkem Okeke (South East), Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala (South East), Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa (North West) and Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade (South West). 

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patricia Manko Lar, expressed gratitude to the President for the full constitution of the University of Abuja Council, led by Dr Olanrewaju Tejuoso,  and reaffirmed  her commitment to working with the Council to advance the University’s goals and vision.
